Organic sheets will cost you more than non-organic sheets, so why should you buy them? The easiest way to answer that is maybe to turn the question around and ask you:
“Would it feel good for you to know that the textile fibers you chose to keep next to your skin 6-9 hours a night are all natural, and have been made/treated with ZERO pesticides? That you made a choice that left water, soil and air cleaner?“
Shop around for sheets and bedding today, and you’ll see a wide range of products and materials standards. Many well-known brands highlight OEKO-TEX certification, in particular, for their bedding. The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification means that each component of the article has been independently tested for harmful substances and certified harmless for human health.
But OEKO-TEX certification alone does not mean that those products are organic, as they allow synthetic additives, pesticides, GMOs and non-organic seeds. The testing for harmful substances gives assurance to your health, but it doesn’t address other practices and effects on the environment – often meaning much cheaper production. At Nilaa, our sheets and bedding meet OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, but we also go a full step further with 100% organic cotton.
The Organic Difference
We’re always trying to do better, and for textiles, raw materials matter immensely for our impact on the world around us. Organic cotton farming creates 60% less carbon dioxides and other greenhouse gases than traditional cotton farming.
All of Nilaa’s cotton, Percale and Sateen sheets, towels and bath robes use 100% organic cotton that meets the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. It is the highest standard in the world. GOTS stands alone in its stringent requirements for both environmental and human safety throughout the supply chain. To pass the GOTS certification, the very seed of the cotton plant must be certified non-GMO and organic by the USDA.
Our care for the world around extends from ensuring that our materials are responsibly-sourced, our craftsmen’s work environment is completely pesticide free, and our sheets and bedding are the highest quality for our customers.
So while the explanation might be a bit technical, the short of it all is pretty simple… by choosing organic sheets you make a conscious choice for a better night’s sleep!
From one passionate sleeper to another – sleep well!!
